You never ever buy a HTIB (home theater in a box) to use with a Blu-Ray system. There are dozens of people on here that are in your same situation. The HTIB usually only has one input and its not HDMI. So its useless for expanding to several components.
Take it back and save some more money to buy a home theater receiver. Then you will need to buy some good home theater speakers not little boxed ones. The receiver will have several inputs and should have HDMI internal switching. So you only need one HDMI output to the TV for video. Then you can hook up what ever components you want and just switch the source button on the remote.
The box systems are just sucking people in that don’t do enough research and see a cheap surround sound system. Problem is that they don’t work with anything else.

Ugh! Why would you buy a DVD-based home theater system when you already have a Blu-ray player? Take it back if you can and get a proper home theater system, one that is based on a receiver, not a DVD player.
DVD-based home theater systems suck because a.) you can’t expand to Blu-ray without having two players taking up space, b.) you have far fewer connection options and c.) they are generally inferior in quality.
As it is, the DVD player is also the amplifier for the speakers, so you have to keep it. You just send the audio from the Blu-ray player to the DVD player via optical or digital coax. Then adjust the Blu-ray player setttings so it’s sending the video out via HDMI and the audio out via optical cable.

You may find the right cable here. http://www.homeentertainmentcables.com/
There are very specific video demonstrations of a variety of cables for your home system. There are also a lot of cables from Monster, which is a really good brand. I hope this helps!

Connect optical cable from Blu-ray player to system input for audio.
